President 2011-2013

Fredie Kay and her husband, Tom Green, moved to Needham in 1991 and joined Temple Aliyah within a few months. They have a daughter, Samantha, who is a junior at Colgate University, and a son, Taylor, who is a sophomore at Needham High. Both children became b’nai mitzvot at Temple Aliyah. In 2005, Fredie moved her mother, Ruth Kay, to Boston and Ruth, who now lives at NewBridge on the Charles, is a member of Temple Aliyah.  

From 2007-2009, Fredie served as Chair of Temple Aliyah’s Keruv Committee, addressing issues related to interfaith families and organizing the Temple’s first Keruv Shabbat in March 2009. Fredie was a member of the Strategic Planning Committee that developed Temple Aliyah’s current 5-year Strategic Plan. 

Fredie was born and raised in the Washington, DC area, with Congregation Beth El of Montgomery County, Maryland playing a large role in her and her family's life. Her father, who passed away in 2003, served as Temple President, and her mother, Ruth Kay, served as President of Sisterhood.

Fredie first came to Boston from Washington, DC as a student at Harvard's Kennedy School, where she received her Masters in Public Administration. Fredie returned to Washington to earn her J.D. from Georgetown University, and was soon back in Boston at the law firm of Goodwin, Procter, where she met Tom.  Fredie’s BA is from the University of Maryland, where she majored in Government and Politics.

After practicing law at Goodwin, Procter, Fredie served as Deputy Legal Counsel to Governors Dukakis and Weld, and as the Director of the MA Office of Dispute Resolution. Currently, Fredie is the Chair of the MA Women's Suffrage Celebration Committee and also serves on the Board of Directors of the Community Dispute Settlement Center.
