Youth Educator

Hinda Eisen as Temple Aliyah's part-time Community Educator, including serving as B'nai Mitzvah tutor  and advisor to the Senior and Junior USY groups. 

Hinda is a cantorial student at Hebrew College, and most recently served for three years as the Ritual Director at Temple Emanu-El in Providence, Rhode Island. She earned her B.A. in Religion with a concentration in Severe Disabilities Special Education from Boston University in 2009, where she also served as the High Holy Days Shlichat Tsibbur for two years, and taught a midrash class at Hillel. While at BU, Hinda completed three semesters of student teaching at local area public schools. While Hinda has embraced New England living since 2005, she is still at heart a Mid-Atlantic native, having grown up in West Caldwell, New Jersey.

Love of Jewish education was cultivated in Hinda from an early age, in many varied experiences. She served as a madrikhah in the only American chapter of NOAM for two years in high school. She was a camper at Camp Ramah in the Berkshires for eight summers, and served seven summers as a counselor, teacher, and musician-in-residence at Camps Ramah in the Berkshires, Wisconsin, and New England. Curricula composed include "Creation and the '-ism'," "Biblical Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll," and "Shabbat Experiences". Hinda has traveled to Israel with Tichon Ramah Yerushalayim, Ramah Israel Institute and Seminar, and the March of the Living; she is happy to speak to parents and students interested in information about any of these programs.

Hinda is also a dedicated musician. She continues to sing with the Zamir Chorale of Boston since she joined in 2006. In Zamir, she has served as the Mary Wolfman Epstein conducting fellow and the Assistant to the Conductor. Hinda is also the two-time recipient of the Al Goldberg Memorial Scholarship in Jewish Music. In 2009, Hinda prepared a curriculum entitled "Jewish Music and Cultural Identity" for Kikar Society grant received from Camp Ramah in Wisconsin.

Hinda's love for formal-informal Jewish Education and Torah study will serve her well as Temple Aliyah's Community Educator and Youth Director. She hopes to be a resource for members of the community of all ages and stages.
