TOUR DE SHULS BIKE RIDE AND FUNDRAISER
Even if you can’t ride in the June 28th Tour de Shuls, we welcome sponsors for our riders. All funds raised benefit the Tikvah Program at Camp Ramah. For more information, please contact Stephen Baum.
In the past few weeks we’ve found two pairs of eyeglasses left behind at services. One pair (Perry Ellis label) has dark brown, bronzed frames and a dark brown case; the other (no designer listed, but very stylish) are metal-framed, half-sized reading glasses. Please call Jan to claim.
We are very excited to announce that Temple
Aliyah will be hosting an Ikkarim Class next year (beginning in the
Fall after the High Holidays). Ikkarim is an 19-Week educational
experience that explores what Jewish Tradition offers parents of
young children (newborn to age 7). Parents learn with dynamic Jewish
educators - interfaith families and all levels of learners are
encouraged to participate. You give your children the best
enrichment opportunities, now is the time to do something for you
(which will in turn benefit your family). The class at Temple Aliyah
will be held on Thursday evenings from 7:30pm-9:00pm. Want to know
more, contact
Karen Cohen.
Do you love Music? Do you love Children?
Temple Aliyah is considering training parents to be “Music Together” leaders with additional training to lead musically based Tot/Youth Shabbat services. We are at the beginning stages of applying for a grant for this very special and unique program. If this sounds interesting to you, please contact Cantor Gastón.
Temple Aliyah/Israel Kesher Committee has supported "Table to Table" in Israel for a couple of years. This amazing organization collects food from corporations, events, army bases, and farms and transports it to their centrally located warehouses. It is then sorted and packaged and delivered to soup kitchens, schools, and in some cases, to individual needy people. The need for such an organization has grown tremendously in the last two years as the economic situation for many families has deteriorated. The mostly volunteer staff is dedicated to their work of providing meals to Israeli citizens in need.
We are fortunate to welcome Paul Leiba, one of the tireless directors of Table to Table, to Temple Aliyah. He wants to thank our members and give an in-depth look at the mechanics of Table to Table. The logistics of this organization and the number of people it serves is quite an achievement.
Wednesday, June 17 at 7:45 pm at Temple Aliyah. Refreshments will be served. Please reply to ronnieisenberg@comcast.net
Keshet (the Hebrew word for “rainbow”) is the local Jewish organization
that promotes inclusivity for Jewish gays, lesbians, bisexuals and
transgendered individuals. Temple Aliyah strives to be an inclusive
community, but even communities like ours must continually explore how
to promote such a goal as sensitively and effectively as possible. On
June 25th, Keshet is sponsoring a free dinner seminar for lay and
professional leaders in local Conservative synagogues to explore some of
the issues involved in reaching out to gays, lesbians, bisexuals and
transgendered individuals. I will be attending, as will several of our
lay leaders. If you would like to attend, please contact Rabbi Perkins
(781-444-8522) or
Julie Berger as soon as possible. Enrollment is limited, but we
would like to have as representative a group as possible.
Temple Aliyah Team Raises More than $3,000
Several members of Temple Aliyah spent many hours over a May weekend walking to raise funds for the American Cancer Society at the annual Relay for Life. The 18-hour event May 16 and 17 attracted hundreds of people remembering, celebrating and fighting back against cancer. The temple team raised more than $3,000; many thanks to Temple members who supported our team by making contributions, walking a few laps with us, or stopping by to enjoy the festivities. A beautiful Havdalah service, co-led by Cantor Gaston and leadership from Temple Beth Shalom and Temple Beth Elohim in Wellesley, was moving and inspirational. Contributions are still being accepted!
If you have comments, suggestions or even kvetchs, please email us.
