Sharing the Joy of Passover with Israeli Families in Need Our sister congregation in Kiryat Bialik, Israel, includes many Argentinean single parent families. In trying to escape economic chaos in Argentina, these families made aliyah to Israel in hopes of finding employment and a better life. However, they are struggling to make ends meet in Israel’s current harsh economic climate. This Pesach, as we say “Let all who are hungry come and eat,” let us join together and take action to enable families in our sister congregation to experience the joy of a Seder. Even if one has already fulfilled the mitzvah of tzedakah, one cannot appreciate the full implication of freedom if he knows that his neighbor is hungry. Your family has an opportunity to sponsor a Passover Seder and make a difference for the families in Kiryat Bialik. In addition to our support at Pesach, we’d like to keep a bond with these Argentinean olim (new immigrant) families and help them throughout the year. To do that, our congregation will also sponsor Shabbat dinners. This ongoing initiative will benefit these families financially, and raise their spirits. A neighborhood supermarket will provide a full dinner, challah and wine, ready for pick-up, so a family in Kiryat Bialik can welcome Shabbat—knowing a family in Needham is wishing them Shabbat Shalom.
