Four Questions about the Prayerbook

This three-session course with a world-renowned scholar on Jewish prayer will examine four essential questions:

  • What is the psychological introduction to the prayerbook?
  • What is the theological introduction to the prayerbook?
  • What is the literary meaning of Ashrei?
  • What is the difference between Judaism and Christianity in saying “God loves you?”

Reuven Kimelman is Professor of Talmud, Midrash and Liturgy at Brandeis University. He is the author of The Mystical Meaning of Lekhah Dodi and Kabbalat Shabbat and the forthcoming The Rhetoric of Jewish Prayer: A Literary and Historical Commentary on the Prayerbook.
