Morashah Project — Special Torah Scroll Celebration week May 14-19, 2008

There will be opportunities throughout the week of May 14-19 for synagogue groups, families and individuals to meet with Rabbi Surazski to perform the 613th Mitzvah of helping to write a Torah Scroll. This is Rabbi Surazski’s last shceduled visit to Temple Aliyah.

We want everyone in the community to take advantage of this opportunity to perform the 613th mitzvah.

We would especially like everyone to join us on Friday evening, May 16 for kabbalat shabbat services and a special catered congregational dinner. Reservations are due by Friday, May 9. Please use the form below.

All members of the congregation will be able to meet Rabbi Surazski to help him complete the writing of the sefer Torah according to the following schedule:

  • Thursday, May 15 — 7:10 pm — Temple Aliyah Board of Trustees
  • Thursday, May 15 — 7:45 pm — Men’s Club
  • Thursday, May 15 — 8:30 pm — Kesher
  • Sunday, May 18 — 9:30 am — Kindergarten Class
  • Sunday, May 18 — 10:20 am — Gimel Class
  • Sunday, May 18 — 10:30 am — Congregation
  • Sunday, May 18 — 10:50 am — Vav Class
  • Sunday, May 18 — 11:30 am — Past Presidents
  • Sunday, May 18 — 1:20 pm — Adult B’nai Mitzvah
  • Sunday, May 18 — 1:30 pm — Me’ah Graduates
  • Sunday, May 18 — 2:00 pm — 45+
  • Sunday, May 18 — 4:00 pm — Adult Ed
  • Sunday, May 18 — 4:30 pm — Keruv
  • Sunday, May 18 — 7:30 pm — Congregation

Donors of $1,000 or more** will also have the opportunity for a private session at scheduled times with Rabbi Surazski on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, to have a turn helping to write in the scroll.

Rabbi Surazski will also be the speaker at Sisterhood’s Donor Dinner on Wednesday, May 14. (For more information and to reserve a seat, please contact Stacy Ross.

Friday evening May 16: Kabbalat Shabbat Family Service at 6:15 pm—all are invited.
Followed by a festive Dinner, with Catering by Andrew. Reservations are required, no later than Friday, May 9 (use form below).

Shabbat morning services — Saturday, May 17, at 9:15 am, followed by Kiddush.

Torah Day II — Sunday May 18 — Back by popular demand
Activities will include:
Workshop I 11:00—11:45 = The Dance of Torah (the origins of the Torah service) by Rabbi Leslie Gordon
Workshop II 11:45—12:30 = Mystical Properties of the Aleph Bet by Joey Baron

The new Torah scroll will be dedicated and read from publicly for the first time on Erev Shavuot, Sunday evening, June 8.
