At Temple Aliyah we worship together, we learn together, we celebrate together, and we offer comfort and support to each other during life’s more difficult times.

The Hesed Committee reaches out to those among us who are dealing with a serious illness or injury, bereaving the loss of a loved one, or coping with an unexpected setback. We also take great pleasure in sharing the simchas in our community.

We provide help in many small ways. We take meals to families in mourning during shiva, provide rides to and from medical appointments for those unable to drive themselves, help with shopping and other chores, and lend a caring ear to those who just need someone to listen.

In addition, our Hesed knitters create “caring shawls” and lap blankets for members of the Temple Aliyah congregation who are battling serious illness or are in recovery. For those receiving these knitted creations, there is comfort in the warmth and ruach (spirit) in the shawl or blanket. Our volunteers also knit baby blankets that are contributed to Children’s Hospital. If you are interested in joining this wonderful group of knitters, please contact Becca Sher.

Some of life’s events are easy to share, while others are more daunting to discuss. If you know of someone in our community who could use a little extra support, please let us know by calling the Temple office or emailing the Hesed Committee at hesed@templealiyah.com.

The Hesed Committee relies on our group of very dedicated and compassionate Hesed Volunteers. We encourage you to join our growing number of volunteers who can bring a meal, provide a ride, visit the sick, make a phone call, or in any way provide comfort to another congregant. We are grateful for the many congregants who are already part of our caring volunteer network.

The Hesed Committee appreciates your donations to the Temple’s Community Caring Fund which supports our activities, including providing Shabbat meals for those sitting shiva and supplies for our Hesed Knitters.
