Temple Aliyah Men's Club supports the temple community in a variety of ways through programming and events throughout the year. It is a participating member of the Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs. The Men's Club encourages your support and involvement and wants to hear from you. Please contact the Men's Club president, Howard Hirsh at MensClub@TempleAliyah.com.
Annual programs and activities include:
- Sunday Morning Breakfasts…..Breakfasts sponsored and prepared by the Men's Club, which is highlighted by a featured speaker.
- Paid Up Supper…..A casual and fun evening for new and existing members generally with a sports themed speaker.
- Men's Club Shabbat…..The annual Shabbat morning service led entirely by Men's Club members. A featured speaker discussing relevant topics is an integral part of this event.
- Monthly Social Networking Dinners…..Dinners outside the Shul which allow Men to network socially and professionally with other members.
- Men's Club Softball…..Every Sunday morning at 9:30 at Claxton Field beginning the last Sunday in April and continuing through Labor Day. This is a weekly pick up, everyone plays, and is a lot of fun.
- Yom Hashoah Yellow Candle Program…..The Yellow Candle™ was conceived in 1981 by members of the Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs to help keep alive the memory of the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust.
Program of events for 2009-10
- Drop in Softball, every Sunday morning at Claxton Field (to resume in June 2010). Contact Bob Brown for more information.
- Men’s Networking Dinners; we will resume our very popular occasional ‘night out with the guys dinners’ after the holidays.Our first Dinner is scheduled for October 21. Please contact Stu Altman if you want to be on the email chain.
- Needham Habitat for Humanity House. Men’s Club is coordinating the Shul’s volunteer days at the house being built on Brookline Avenue. Our assigned days are December 8, January 12, February 21, and March 21. We will be looking for volunteers on all of these dates.
- Men’s Club will also be participating in the World Wide Wrap on February 7th. Annually the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs sponsors a World Wide Wrap. The Wrap is an international program of FJMC that allows Jews from all over the world to join together to practice and learn about the performance of the mitzvah of wrapping tefillin.
- Regional Keeper of the Flame Award Dinner. This year we selected Gil Brodsky to be honored by the New England Region of the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs. The Dinner was Sunday October 25. Yasher koach to Gil for his many contributions to the Temple community.
- Joint Program with Adult Ed. Men’s Club will be partnering with the Adult Ed committee on a program in the spring bringing a speaker to the Shul focusing on environmental issues.
- Joint Program with Israel Kesher Committee. Men’s Club is partnering with the Kesher Committee to screen a film about the Israel Baseball league. Stay tuned for more information.
