Temple Aliyah Sisterhood offers something
for everyone. No matter what stage of life you are in or what level
of involvement you are ready for, Sisterhood welcomes you to learn
more about being part of our active community.
We are proud of the number of events and interest
groups we sponsor for our members and their families, as well as
the fund raising projects and the hands-on support we offer as a
vital arm of the temple.e are always open to new ways to reach out
to our members -- from our novel healthy lifestyles community education
events and our popular holiday school program for pre-schoolers,
to operating a growing Judaica shop.
Whether you're looking for camaraderie, spiritual
connection, social action or the opportunity to get involved in
your temple, Sisterhood is here for you.
Social
New Member Tea is
a personal introduction to Sisterhood for new and potential members,
held in the warmth of a member's home.
Paid Up Supper is a
casual, fun, entertaining evening, honoring new members and kicking
off the year.
Progressive Dinner is
a very popular event in which couples meet and mingle over a multi-course
meal served in several different member's homes.
Mah Jongg Tournament
offers competitive play and prizes for all levels. This spring event
is a fun evening that even attracts players outside the Sisterhood
community.
Donor Dinner is our
major fundraiser and the last large event of the year. It is a semi-formal
affair, which includes boutiques, cocktails, dinner and entertainment.

Spiritual
Rosh Hodesh Group welcomes women at
all stages of life, from all levels of Jewish observance to share
in studying the significance of the upcoming Jewish month.
Sisterhood Shabbat is
our annual Shabbat morning service lead entirely by Sisterhood members.
Supportive instruction enables women to take a hands-on role in
all aspects of the service, even if they have never done so before.
This moving event includes a relevant speaker and inspires women
to feel confident and comfortable participating in Temple Aliyah's
year-round egalitarian services.
Torah Fund Brunch is
Sisterhood's fundraiser for the Jewish Theological Seminary, held
at a member's home. The Light of Torah award recipient is also honored.
Children
and Family
Sukkah Decorating is the first family
event of the new year. After making decorations, the children get
to display their proud work in the Sukkah and enjoy a special treat.
Children's Hanukah Party
is a festive event featuring crafts and music. It is geared toward
young children and their families.
Children's Fun Day is
an afternoon of fun, music and games especially for elementary and
early middle-school children.
Purim Carnival at Aliyah
is a busy and fun-filled afternoon of games, treats and prizes.
Save room for the Hamentashen!
College Student Liaison
assembles and sends Hanukah and Passover packages to college students
of temple members.

Temple Community
Support
High Holiday Childcare is organized
by Sisterhood to provide crafts, storytime and snacks to our substantial
pre-school population during high holiday services.
Shabbat Babysitting
is provided during Saturday morning services for ages 2-5.
Shabbat Kiddush Sponsors
and Flowers are organized by Sisterhood to enhance the Shabbat morning
service.
Judaica Shop has a full
range of beautiful holiday and gift items and is run and staffed
by Sisterhood volunteers.
Holiday School is our
popular monthly pre-school education program staffed by Sisterhood
volunteers. Each month, one holiday is presented via crafts, stories,
music and more. During the program, parents have the opportunity
to attend a related study session led by the Rabbi.
Shabbat Yeladim is a fun, weekly Shabbat
service designed especially for pre-school children and their parents.
Passover Wine Sale is
a Sisterhood fundraiser that enables Temple Members to purchase
a wide variety of Passover wines and grape juice for their seders.
Roche Brother's. Scrip
is a fundraising program through a local supermarket chain. Support
sisterhood as you shop!

Enrichment
Healthy Lifestyles Programs present
relevant health topics in a small, lively, interactive group setting
throughout the year.
Mah Jongg Lessons are
provided by knowledgeable Sisterhood members in a series of six
entertaining sessions.
Investment Group offers
sisterhood members a chance to learn and hone their investment knowledge
and skills.
Book Club meets 3 to
4 times per year to discuss books with Jewish- and/or women-related
themes.
Community
Outreach
Needham Interfaith Council fosters
relationships amongst the temples and churches in Needham. Sisterhood
is proud to send a representative from Temple Aliyah.
Social Action
is an important value of Sisterhood. Several ongoing projects include
the support of Second Step, a transitional home for women and children,
and leading Shabbat services at a local nursing home.
