Shabbat This Week:

  • Social Action at Aliyah

The Temple Aliyah Social Action Committee, inspired by the Jewish tradition of engaging in mitzvot dedicated to tikkun olam, provides opportunities for members of the congregation to learn about and inspire action in response to Jewish issues of social justice that occur on local, national and international levels. The biggest social action event of the year is Mitzvah Day, which occurs in May (see pictures from Mitzvah Day 2013).  However, this year there are more opportunities than ever to participate in activities throughout the year:

    • Donate whole wheat pasta and kosher soup to Family Table
    • Pack and deliver groceries from Jewish Family and Children's Services ]
    • Sort donated food at the Greater Boston Food Bank
    • Engage in fun and games each month with Walker School students
    • Prepare clothing for needy families at Circle of Hope
    • Serve food to the homeless at the Woods Mullen Shelter

WalkforhungerOn the Social Action webpage there are a number of other programs in need of volunteers and support year-round. You can also join the Social Action Committee at Temple Aliyah at any of our upcoming meetings. Check the calendar for the schedule. For more information, send us an e-mail.

Remember, you put the U in COMMUNITY!
