  • BARUCH DAYAN EMET
  •

Our condolences go out to Dick Schoeller and His Family on the recent passing of Dick’s grandmother, Mary Schoeller.

May the Divine Presence comfort them, among all the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

  • ROSH HODESH GROUP
  •

The Sisterhood Rosh Hodesh Group will have its Kislev meeting on Monday, December 1 at 7:30 pm at the home of Charlotte Chase, 67 Mackintosh Avenue, Needham. For further information, contact Mara Steinberg-Dlott at 781-769-1705.

  • DAN SHAUGHNESSY AT MEN’S CLUB PAID-UP SUPPER THIS THURSDAY
  •

Once again, Dan Shaughnessy, Boston Globe columnist and author of “Curse of the Bambino” and other books, will speak at the Men’s Club Paid Up Supper, reviewing a year of ultimately impossible dreams. Dan was a big hit at this event last year, and we figure there’s a lot more for him to talk about with us this year.

Please join us for dinner, conversation, and group therapy. Thursday, December 4th, 6:30 P.M.  RSVP to Jan at 781-444-8522, or via email to srbaum@rcn.com.

(As always, the Men’s Club Paid-Up Supper is free to members, but please bring a checkbook anyway. We will be accepting contributions to supplement stipends for soldiers associated with our “sister” — okay, “brother” — congregation at Kiryat Bialik.)

  • SHABBATON
  •

Please plan to attend this year’s Shabbaton weekend, which is this weekend, December 5 and 6. Our Shabbaton Artist-In-Residence, Rahel Musleah, will introduce us to the Jews of India, her distinctive heritage, and share stories, songs and her personal history. This promises to be an informative and exciting weekend. Please consider becoming a sponsor of this program. More details on the web site.

We are still taking reservations for this event, but please call the Temple office at 781-444-8522 immediately if you are interested.

  • LEARN ABOUT THE UGANDAN JEWISH “ABAYUDAYA” COMMUNITY DECEMBER 8
  •

Please join us next Monday, December 8, 2003 at 7:30 pm, as Rabbi Howard Gorin will take us on a journey to Africa, as he shares with us his exciting work with the Abayudaya, the Jews of Uganda. Temple Aliyah donated our “old” Hertz humashim to this Jewish community in Uganda, thus establishing a link with the Jews in this far-away land. Come learn about the customs and practices of the Abayudaya.

For more information, contact Debbie Kurinsky.

  • ISRAEL EDUCATION DAY - SUNDAY, DECEMBER 14
  •

Mark your calendars for Sunday, December 14, for our annual Israel education Day.

Our religious school will meet as usual, but all classes will focus on the subject of Israel. There will also be the screening of the film Relentless, as part of the Men’s Club Breakfast. More information will soon be on the web site and in your next Pulse.

  • IN THE COMMUNITY
  •

The Klezmatics, in a Family Hanukah Concert, Sunday, December 7th, 1pm and 3pm, at the Leventhal Sidman Jewish Community Center in Newton.
Get into the Hanukah mood with these world famous superstars of Klezmer music. Foot stomping Klezmer and Yiddish rock’n roll will delight the entire family in this jubilant holiday concert.

The JCC has graciously extended a special offer for members of Temple Aliyah: identify yourself as a Temple member and receive the $10 JCC member price. Call the Box Office at 617-965-5226
    .

  • HANUKKAH
  •

The Gift Shop is having a big pre-Hanukkah sale — 20% off selected items (no, that doesn’t mean you get a menorah with 7.2 candles, you get the whole menorah but for 20% less money than before) until Decmber 12! Also dreidels, candy, crafts, and more!

The Hanukkah gift drive continues through December 8. The gifts need to be age-specific, must be wrapped, and must be delivered to Temple Aliyah by December 8. For more information, please contact Linda Gotthelf.

Mark your calendars for the annual sisterhood Hanukkah Party for young families, Sunday, Decmber 21, from 3:30-5:00 pm. Click here for more info.

  • SUPPORT TA - BUY SCRIP
  •

We have instituted an expanded Scrip program here at Temlpe Aliyah. Purchase your “scrip” from many merchants at the Temple Office, and use it like cash or a credit card at those stores. Some of the scrip can even be used for on-line purchases. Everything from groceries (Stop&Shop) to school/office supplies (Staples) to gas (Shell), entertainment (Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, AMC and Loews movies), books (Borders, B&N), and so much more can be purchased, and the Temple gets a cut of the purchase price. Hey, these are things you buy anyway, so why not do a mitzvah and help us out at the same time?

We have posted a list of merchants on the web site. Please print this out and mail or bring your list to the Temple office with your payment. Please note that we can not put this on your Temple bill, and we can not take on-line orders at this time.

  • ON THE WEB SITE
  •

All of Rabbi Perkins’s High Holiday sermons from this year are now up on the web site, including those from Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur.

And the Presidential High Holiday Appeal speech has also been uploaded.

The TA Program Booklet, with all of this year’s activities, including those sponsored by Family Ed, Adult Ed, the Kesher Committee, the Social Action Committee, and the Men’s Club and Sisterhood, beautifully put together by our Family Educator Terri Swartz-Russell, has now been uploaded as a linked .pdf file.

We’ve updated our copies of the Shofar on-line, in Acrobat (pdf) format, including the most recent November issue. If you want to read these, we ask that you log in with a user-name and password, which will be the same for everyone. The User-name is tkiah, and the password is shvarim. (Please don’t give these out to anyone outside the Temple community.)

Even more updates to the site will be coming soon...

If you ever see a simcha, or the memory of a departed dear one, listed here in one of these emails, and you are so inclined, a donation in honor or in memory is only a click away. Just go to the Donations page on the web site—it takes just a few minutes to fill it in.

If you would like to change the email address for this subscription, or to unsubscribe (although we’d hate to see you go), please don’t send an email to us. You can make your changes via either of the links at the bottom of this page: “Update your profile” or “SafeUnsubscribe”.

If you have any items that you ever want publicized in this email, please send the information to ComingUp@TempleAliyah.com. Be sure to include the date, time, location, sponsoring organization, and contact information (including email address and optional phone number), and please include the title of your program or event in the subject line. (Please, if you respond to this email, delete the original message.)
