  • SHABBATON
  •

Mark your calendar for this year’s Shabbaton weekend, which is on December 5 and 6. Our Shabbaton Artist-In-Residence, Rahel Musleah, will introduce us to the Jews of India, her distinctive heritage, and share stories, songs and her personal history. This promises to be an informative and exciting weekend. Please consider becoming a sponsor of this program. More details on the web site.

We are also requesting all members to consider supporting this event by becoming a sponsor for $125, a super sponsor for $200, or a benefactor for $360. All levels of sponsorship include two adult Shabbat dinners, and all sponsors will be acknowledged in the program booklet.

  • LEARN TO READ HEBREW
  •

Learn to read Hebrew in just 2 days! Plan now to participate in the upcoming Hebrew Reading Marathon, to be held on Sundays, December 7 & 14 from 1-5 p.m. This course is for people with no Hebrew background or for those in need of a refresher class. The fee for 8 hours of instruction is $80.00. Make the commitment today! Contact Terri Swartz Russell at terri@templealiyah.com for more information. Give us 8 hours and we’ll give you 4000 years.

  • SUPER SUNDAY
  •

CJP’s annual Super Sunday appeal will take place this year on November 23. Temple Aliyah has sent a delegation of volunteer callers in the past, and we’d like to do so again this year. It’s great for CJP, for the entire Jewish commiunity, and for TA. If interested, please contact Lesli Reich.

  • ME’AH 2004
  •

Are you interested in studying in the next Me’ah class currently being formed that will begin in the Fall of 2004? If yes, contact Terri Swartz Russell for details. Temple Aliyah and Temple Beth Shalom jointly sponsor a Needham Collaborative Me’ah program. Me’ah is an Adult Learning Program, sponsored by Hebrew College and the Boston Jewish Community. It is a 2-year commitment of 100 (me’ah) hours of study. Areas covered are the Biblical, Rabbinic, Medieval, and Modern periods of Jewish history and life.

  • HAVUROT FORMING
  •

Interested in joining a havurah? Havurah formation is an ongoing process at Temple Aliyah. We are continuing the process of forming new havurot or adding to existing ones as needed. For more information, read the pamphlet in the current Pulse or check out the web site info. If interested, please complete and return the Response Form, or email Terri, and we will be in contact.

  • IN THE COMMUNITY
  •

The popular Israeli rock band, Reva l’Sheva, will be performing a Rock For Israel concert on Sunday, November 23, at 6:00 p.m. in Swampscott. This is one of the few spiritually focused rock bands that both religious and secular Israelis enjoy. The band is led by Yehuda Katz, former musical director and guitarist for Shlomo Carlebach (and brother-in-law to Debi and Joey Baron). Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for students, by calling 781.581.3833 or on online at www.nsjewish.com. Or email Joey Baron at bafriend@rcn.com.

Sami Michael, the author of the novel A Trumpet in the Wadi, the film of which is being shown at Temple Aliyah on November 23, will be lecturing at Hebrew College in Newton Centre on November 10 at 7:30 (in Hebrew) and on November 12 at 7:30 (in English). Admission is free. For more information, visit the Hebrew College web site. Sami Michael was born in Iraq, fled Baghdad in 1948 for Iran, and then settled in Israel a year later. He is president of the Association for Civil Rights in Israel and cofounder of the Society for Solidarity with the Iraqi People.

  • A SEARCH FOR CHAIRS
  •

This time our search is not for people to chair committees, but to locate some missing folding, white chairs. These are the chairs which we use in the social hall and occasionally in the sanctuary for extra seating. Please check your homes and see if you have forgotten to return any that you may have borrowed … and then plan to bring them on your next trip to the synagogue. Thanks for your help.
