  • BARUCH DAYAN EMET
  •

Our condolences go out to Temple members Jonathan and Donna Harada Pincus on the recent passing in florida of Jonathan’s brother, David Pincus, at age 39. The family will not be sitting shiva locally.

May the Divine Presence comfort them, among all the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

  • MAZAL TOV
  •

    Mazal Tov to:

Linda Savenor on the marriage of her son Charlie last Sunday in NYC to Julie Walpert. Charlie, who for many years led High Holiday children’s services here, is now a Rabbi and the Dean of Admissions at JTS.

Pam Glass, who has been selected by Sisterhood as this year’s recipient of the Light of Torah award.  This award is given annually to a Sisterhood member who exemplifies the qualities of commitment to Torah, service to the community, and deeds of lovingkindness.  As a long-time member and past-president of Sisterhood, and as a member of the Temple board, Pam has quietly, and without fanfare, consistently exhibited these qualities and enriched our Temple Aliyah community.

  • PASSOVER 5764
  •

Here’s a complete list of all Passover programs, includiing service times.

Putting all that uneaten cereal and cookies in a corner in the basement or garage? Then you should make a point to sell your hametz. Print and fill out the form and send in before the holiday begins. You can still do this up until Monday morning, the 5th.

Men’s Club Breakfast: Tired of trying to figure out your menu during the week-long holiday? Let the TA Men help out with at least one meal! Breakfast on Sunday, April 11 follows the 9:00 minyan, featuring Murray’s matzah brei with lox! The guest speaker will be our own Keith Lewinstein.

Sponsor a kiddush: We need Passover Kiddush Sponsors for Passover. Help us by sponsoring Pesach Kiddush on Day 1 (April 6th), Day 2 (April 7th), Pesach Shabbat (April 10th), Day 7 (April 12th), or Day 8 (April 13th). Remember that Day 8 is Yizkor, so many people choose to use this kiddush to remember their loved ones who are no longer with us. Each Sponsorship is $54. It is easy to sponsor! Please e-mail to: Kiddush@templealiyah.com, we will be happy to bill you.

Last minute Hagaddah shopping? We still have more copies of “A Different Night” Haggadahs. This is a great new family friendly Haggadah recommended by both the Rabbi and Terri for kids and adults of all ages. It was displayed during the recent Passover Religious School programs. These will be for sale at $7.50 each or $6.00 for 5 or more. Please contact Wendy Bornstein ASAP.

Looking for last minute recipes for your seder? Here are the special Pesach recipes for the dishes which Miriam Schamberg, our Youth Director, made at the pre-Pesach workshop. And here are Pesach recipes from the TA Sisterhood cookbook. Both sets are .pdf files.

  • TRIP TO NYC SUNDAY 4/25 - JTS AND JEWISH MUSEUM
  •

Join Rabbi Perkins and a limited number of congregants (the luxury tour bus holds 40 people) for a full-day trip to the Big Apple. We will leave early in the morning and return late in the evening. We’ll visit the Jewish Museum and the Jewish Theological Seminary, including the Rare Books room at the JTS Library, which alone is worth the trip. The low cost of $100 covers transportation, all fod, and museum passes. Our theme for the day will be “Jewish Life in the Medieval Islamic World.” Check the Web site for full details. For more info, email David Lintz.

  • FAMILY TABLE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED APRIL 25
  •

Temple Aliyah has the responsibility for delivering food to Family Table recipients on Sunday, April 25. Family Table is the Greater Boston Jewish community’s food pantry located in the basement of Kehillath Israel on Harvard Street in Brookline. We need 10-12 drivers/families from Temple Aliyah to prepare bags of groceries and deliver them to Family Table recipients. Some people have already volunteered, but we still need about five more drivers. The commitment is approximately 2-3 hours, beginning at 12:30 or 1 p.m. Delivering food for Family Table is a great experience for adults and for families with children of almost any age. We need your help! If you are interested in reserving a space, or if you have questions, please contact Peter Krupp at pkrupp@rcn.com or 781-449-9672.

  • CALENDAR CHANGE
  •

On February 1, 2004, the Knesset agreed to postpone the commemoration of Yom HaZikaron to begin on Sunday evening, April 25 and Yom HaAtzmaut to begin on Monday evening, April 26. Since this change was just made last month, all previously printed calendars are in error. Please note the changes in dates.

Students compete for all-expense paid trips to Washington, DC and for scholarships up to $5,000.  Since the inception of the Project in 1994, more than $350,000 has been awarded.  Informational booklets are available in the Temple Office,  or you may visit the foundation’s website.  Essays may be mailed in or sent by email, and may not exceed 1200 words.  The deadline is April 30, 2004.

  • SUPPORT SHABBAT AT KIRYAT BIALIK
  •

You can still sponsor a Shabbat dinner for a single parent family in our sister congregation in Kiryat Bialik, Israel.  This is an ongoing initiative that will let Argentinean olim (new immigrants) know that a family in Needham is wishing them Shabbat Shalom.  See the web page for more details and a donation form. Contact Bonnie Gold if you have any questions.
