  • SUMMER—AND FALL—SERVICES
  •

Please note that we are continuing our regular program of services throughout the summer, which includes Shabbat mornings at 9:15, Monday mornings at 6:45, and Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 7:30.

Our regular schedule of evening minyans, every Monday through Thursday at 7:30, will resume on September 13. You will be receiving your minyan assignments for the year shortly—please honor your responsibility.

  • HIGH HOLIDAYS
  •

Rosh Hashanah will be here in a mere three weeks!

You can still order Israeli roses for your holiday table, but you must act quickly. The deadline for ordering for Rosh Hashanah is this Friday, August 27, and delivery will be on Tuesday, September 14. Orders for Sukkot must be in by Friday, September 10, to be delivered on Tuesday, September 28. The cost will be $15 per dozen, $5 of which is tax-deductible (and represents a contribution to the Kesher Committee adopted families in Israel). The color options are:  Yellow, Yellow with red tips, Peach, Mixed, Any. The only method of payment is by a check made out to Temple Aliyah. If you want to place an order for Rosh Hashanah, please call the Temple office at 781-444-8522 before 2 pm on Friday. For Sukkot orders, please email Elana Kling Perkins with your information as soon as possible.

The High Holiday information books have been mailed out, but if you would like to check out the identical copy online, complete with clickable links from the Table of Contents, you can find it here as a pdf file.

Back by popular demand, TA neighborhood get togethers are a lovely way to shmooze with your TA neighbors. We are looking for hosts for our Neighborhood Get Togethers on the 2nd day of Rosh Hashanah 9/17 from 3-4:30. This is a “pot luck” get together, after services and prior to Shabbat. All that is requested are hosts homes in various Needham neighborhoods and surrounding towns. (You provide the home and paper goods, and your TA guests will bring Kosher desserts and drinks.) For more information and/or to offer your home, please email Pam Glass, Susan Kalish, or Ellen Sherman.

  • TEMPLE AUCTION
  •

Save the date for the big annual fundraiser, the Temple Aliyah Auction, which will be held on Saturday night, November 6. Our committee is forming, so if you can help us in any way, please join us for our next meeting on Wednesday September 1st, 7:45 pm, at the Temple. If you can’t make the meeting but would like to help out, please email or call Nancy Rashap 781-444-9072

  • HOLIDAY SCHOOL TEACHER SOUGHT
  •

Holiday School is still looking for volunteers to teach and lead music in each of our sessions. Holiday school is once a month on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30-5:00 pm.  Music is held during the class at 4:30 for about 15-20 minutes.  We have a great group of pre-schoolers who have a great time learning about the holidays by doing crafts, listening to stories and singing/dancing to songs. If you are interested in having some fun once a month please call Liz Krebs at 781-326-3503 or email her at krebs96@comcast.net.

  • YARD SALE CANCELED
  •

Please make a note that the Temple-wide yard sale, originally scheduled for September 12, has been postponed. We hope to reschedule it for sometime in the Spring.

  • A TASTE OF ME’AH
  •

We are proud to announce that there will indeed be a Me’ah program based here in Needham for the 2004-2006 cycle of two years of 100 hours of Jewish study.

There is still an opportunity to check out this great program, which dozens of our members have attended in its previous sessions. For those interested in a “Taste of Me’ah,” you have the opportunity to attend a free Teaching and Information Session at Hebrew College, Newton, on Wednesday, September 8, 2004, from 7-8:30pm. To register for this complimentary Taste of Me’ah information session or to find out more, contact the Hebrew College Me’ah Office at 617-559-8709 or email meah@hebrewcollege.edu or our Family Educator Terri Swartz-Russell.

  • CHOOSING A COLLEGE
  •

Are you the parents of an eleventh or twelfth grader preparing for college? Ensuring that the campus your child is considering has a vibrant Jewish life is one of the many factors that go into choosing the right school. A leadership fellow working for the National Hillel office is available to provide you with information and answer your questions. Rabbi Perkins has written a short article about this important subject.

  • KIRYAT BIALIK NEWS
  •

Mazel Tov to the Masorti Congregation of the Krayot! Rabbi Perkins has received a letter from Rabbi Balter, the Rabbi of our sister congregation in Kiryat Bialik, that reads as follows:

    Dear Friends,
I bring you good news: Yesterday the Kiryat Bialik Town Council voted to grant us a permit to construct a synagogue building for our
congregation. I want to thank you for your support and encouragement in the wake of efforts by certain vocal opponents of our proposal in the town council. Your support was invaluable. It convinced the members of the council that we are not alone, that we have partners who, though living far from Kiryat Bialik, are with us during difficult times. We look forward to your support in the future, in order to actualize the permit that we received and to built the synagogue we've been hoping for.
    Once again, many thanks,
    Rabbi Maruricio Balter
