Update on Cantor Gelman

The Cantor and Phyllis are enormously grateful for the outpouring of support they have received from our Temple community. Our continued support is so important right now for both Phyllis and the Cantor.

If you are interested in visiting the Cantor at Woodbriar of Wilmington, or at his home, which is only about 30 minutes from Needham, please email Nancy Magier and let her know when you would like to visit.

Alternatively, you can sign up to visit the Cantor using the Lotsa Helping Hands web site.

We have started a Lotsa Helping Hands online community for Cantor Gelman so that people can sign up to visit the Cantor during visiting hours at Woodbriar and later at his home (which will be on or around May 31). All you have to do is visit the web site. You will need to register first (a few minutes to fill out the right-hand side of the form which is a Request to Join the Community). As coordinator for the community, Nancy will then accept you as a member of the Cantor Gelman community, then you can sign up for a visit time.

Shalom uL’hitraot, Shana!

We are sad to announce that after five years as our Jr. USY and Kadima Advisor, our beloved Shanna Belenky will be leaving us in June. Shanna was accepted to the Boston University School of Education for a second masters degree in Special Education, with a sub-focus on administration—and received a full tuition scholarship to boot! While Shanna has loved her time at Temple Aliyah, her schedule next year will be too demanding for her to continue with us. Shanna has done such fantastic work building up our youth groups, and has become a special person in the lives of many of our children. We will miss her, and we wish her all the best at BU.

Ikkarim Program at Temple Aliyah — intro program on June 4

We are very excited to announce that Temple Aliyah will be hosting an Ikkarim Class next year (beginning in the Fall after the High Holidays). Ikkarim is an 19-Week educational experience that explores what Jewish Tradition offers parents of young children (newborn to age 7). Parents learn with dynamic Jewish educators. Interfaith families and all levels of learners are encouraged to participate. You give your children the best enrichment opportunities—now is the time to do something for you (which will in turn benefit your family). The class at Temple Aliyah will be held on Thursday evenings from 7:30pm-9:00pm. If you want to find out more, plan to come to “a Taste of Ikkarim” program on Thursday, June 4 from 7:30-9:00 pm. Want to know more?— contact Karen Cohen.

Rabbi Perkins has written a letter to the community urging parents to consider this program, and you can read it online.
