Lots of congrats to go around!:

First of all to Dr. Beverly Schwartz-Katsh and her husband Ethan Katsh on the birth of the first grandchildren, twin girls, Abigail and Sarah, born to Rebecca Katsh Singer and her husband, Jordan Singer.

...also to Arnie Bearak, Arlene Bryer, and Robin Jaeger, upon receiving awards as Exceptional Volunteers by the Solomon Schechter community at the Schechter 2009 Annual Meeting.

...and to Debbie Kurinsky and Margie Bodsky, who will be honored by CJP next week at their annual campaign closing cookout, as “CJP Campaign Team Superstars” for the year.

Finally, May 31st was a wonderfully celebratory day for our congregation. On that day, Hebrew College held its commencement exercises at Congregation Mishkan Tefillah in Chestnut Hill, and numerous members of the congregation celebrated the completion of courses of study. Nineteen members received certificates for completing the Meah program; sixteen high school students graduated from Prozdor; and six high school seniors received certificates for participating in the Prozdor Senior Seminar. Rabbi Perkins, who is a member of the faculty of the Hebrew College Rabbinical School, marched in the academic procession and was on hand to witness this festive occasion. We are very proud of all of our graduates! They are:

Prozdor Graduates: David Baker, Michael Borgenicht, Victoria Cohen, Ranya Gale, Joanna Glanz, Miriam Hammer, Merav Kaufman, Yael Kaufman, Lindsay Levinson, Hannah Miller, Ariel Nathanson, Lily Nieto, Zachary Reisch, Atlee Silk, Deborah Steinberg and Melissa Tabak

Senior Seminar Certificates: Matt Dubin, Sara Eisenberg, Aaron Krupp, Jonathan Park, Rachel Sadok and Melissa Tabak

Meah Graduates: Joey Baron, Arnold Bearak, Karen and Robert Geggel, Howard Kaufman, Amy Knopf, Stephanie Kornbleuth, Richard Kramer, Peter and Vicki Krupp, Amy Lassman, Larry Marget, Ellen Moskowitz, Susan Neckes, Alan Packer, Neil Sacks, Ron Sadok, Sara Shapiro and Bernie Silverman.

Visiting Cantor Gelman

The Cantor and Phyllis are enormously grateful for the outpouring of support they have received from our Temple community. Our continued support is so important right now for both Phyllis and the Cantor.

If you are interested in visiting the Cantor at his home, which is only about 30 minutes from Needham, please email Nancy Magier and let her know when you would like to visit.

Alternatively, you can sign up to visit the Cantor using the Lotsa Helping Hands web site.

We have started a Lotsa Helping Hands online community for Cantor Gelman so that people can sign up to visit the Cantor at his home. All you have to do is visit the web site. You will need to register first (a few minutes to fill out the right-hand side of the form which is a Request to Join the Community). As coordinator for the community, Nancy will then accept you as a member of the Cantor Gelman community, then you can sign up for a visit time.

Table to Table — Speaker on June 17

Temple Aliyah/Israel Kesher Committee has supported “Table to Table” in Israel for a couple of years. This amazing organization collects food from corporations, events, army bases, and farms and transports it to their centrally located warehouses. It is then sorted and packaged and delivered to soup kitchens, schools, and in some cases, to individual needy people. The need for such an organization has grown tremendously in the last two years as the economic situation for many families has deteriorated. The mostly volunteer staff is dedicated to their work of providing meals to Israeli citizens in need.

We are fortunate to welcome Paul Leiba, one of the tireless directors of Table to Table, to Temple Aliyah. He wants to thank our members and give an in-depth look at the mechanics of Table to Table. The logistics of this organization and the number of people it serves is quite an achievement.

Wednesday, June 17 at 7:45 pm at Temple Aliyah. Refreshments will be served. Please reply to Ronni Eisenberg.
