The Jewish Advocate:  September 5, 2014:  Most area temples seeing steady growth/Rising memberships are bucking the national trend"  Rabbi Perkins quoted, and Gan Aliyah Preschool mentioned.

Rabbi Carl Perkins of Temple Aliyah in Needham, a Conservative synagogue, also reported a rise in membership.  "Our congregation has been experiencing gradual, steady growth over ther last five years form an increasingly broader geographical area," he said.  Recent new members have come from a variety of communities including Needham, Dover, Westwood, Sudbury and Marlborough.  Gan Aliyah (Preschool), a new preschool at the temple, also brought new members from Roslindale, West Roxbury and Sherborn.  Rabbi Perkins said most of the new members are young and have children, but there is a number of empty nesters and single adults.

Major League Baseball season opens this week, the earliest in history! Did you know that Temple Aliyah’s B’nai Mitzvah Tutor, Hazzan Linda Sue Sohn, had the honor of singing the Star Spangled Banner at Fenway Park on Mother’s day in 2009? And listed among his most exciting moments as a sports fan, Temple Aliyah President David Farbman savors the memory of being at Fenway Park for Jon Lester’s no-hitter on May 19, 2008.
